The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is launching the ‘Mandela: Struggle for Freedom’ exhibit, looking at Nelson Mandela and the movement that formed around him.

During the fight against the system of Apartheid many anti-apartheid posters were created in South Africa and around the world, and its messages still resonate today.

Upswell was commissioned to develop a poster-making activity, an interactive table + web app where museum visitors can design their own posters.

The activity’s main goal is visitor expression and creativity. Our approach was to use as little UI as possible, keeping the experience simple and intuitive and letting the posters take center stage. User-contributed content is shared in the museum gallery and can also be downloaded.
